SECURE IN GOD'S LOVE

Kalicharan's family struggled to survive because of their poor financial condition.

"They won’t come in. They’ll be repulsed by this place." These were Kalicharan’s thoughts when a Dayspring International mobile film team came knocking at his door.

Kalicharan hadn’t worked in months. His whole family lived in a one-room mud shack. He knew it would look filthy and disgusting to anyone who lived in a real house to see this poverty-stricken hut.

Yet ... the team came in, and gave no sign at all that they thought the house was poor and unkept. In fact, they seemed very delighted to have been invited in. The team members seemed happy to visit with Kalicharan and his family. That had never happened before! 

Kalicharan wasn’t just embarrassed about his poverty ... he was actually ashamed ... even mortified ... that he couldn’t provide for his family. Not long before this visit, he had actually been driven to attempt suicide. He felt like a complete failure, and he couldn’t stand to see his wife and children suffer. He thought his only way out was to end his own life. Thankfully, a friend interrupted his suicide attempt and saved him.

But still, he had no hope. That’s why it was so interesting to Kalicharan when the Dayspring mobile film team told him that there is a God who cares about suffering people, and who wants to help them. The family listened intently to what the team had to say about the One God, the Living God. It gave them a glimmer of hope they’d not experienced in a long time.

Before the team left, they invited the family to the next Dayasagar film showing. Kalicharan was swept away by the film — he and his family marveled at the words Jesus spoke, words of hope and peace ... During the crucifixion, tears began to roll down Kalicharan’s face. Why should this innocent Man be sentenced to such a cruel death?

Kalicharan was so involved in the suffering of Jesus, he forgot his own suffering for a while. That night, Kalicharan and his family decided to follow Christ as their Savior. Today, they pray and read God’s Word together, every day — and Kalicharan has a new job, too.
