A report of a film team attacked by radical extremists highlights the urgent need to pray for the safety of our teams, even as we pray for God’s Spirit to bless the film showings. One of our film teams had just finished a very effective film showing in a remote village among the Dalits. But extremists had heard about the film showing and surrounded the team the next morning as they tried to leave the village.
They beat and tortured these film team workers. At one point, after hours of brutal assault, the angry mob tried to force two of the men to kneel and pray before a stone idol. When they refused to do so, the beating began with renewed vigor! It is only by the grace of God that these brothers were not killed —something changed the minds of their captors, and they were allowed to leave. The mob kept their wallets and money, their film equipment, even their bicycles
Our film team managed to make their way on foot to a mission house about two kilometers away, where concerned Christians took them in and began to bind up their wounds. Later, the police recovered the film equipment and bicycles (praise the Lord!) but showed little interest in arresting anyone for the crimes.
This is the kind of threat our teams face daily. Please pray for God’s protection.
